I am not an alcoholic. I like myself better now than I did when I was drinking. It's been three years since I last had a drink, and I've never felt better. I've learned to appreciate the simple things in life, and my happiness is now stable and genuine. I didn't recognize happiness before, as my life was clouded by alcohol and its lies. Now, I can think clearly and practice self-care, like sea swimming, walking in nature, listening to music, and enjoying a cup of coffee with a friend. These activities are not only enjoyable but also therapeutic. I've also embraced gratitude, which has changed my perspective and made me kinder. I no longer wait for happiness to come to me; I send out the invitations. I've learned to accept that life isn't perfect, and I've found solace in nature, like the cyclamen that keeps on giving despite harsh winds. Sobriety has given me a sense of liberation and the ability to make choices without the influence of alcohol. I've also learned to set boundaries, like not staying at a party when I want to leave, and to prioritize my well-being. I've come to realize that life is a metaphor for nature, with its floods, droughts, hurricanes, and typhoons. Just as we wouldn't go up against a typhoon, we shouldn't engage in heated arguments when we're stressed. Instead, we should batten down the hatches and bide our time until the storm passes. In my opinion, the key to a fulfilling life is to find balance, embrace self-care, and cultivate gratitude. It's not about perfection, but about finding peace and contentment in the present moment. And if I can do it, anyone can.
